Large tiles need a flatter base

Bigger tiles show lippage and hollow spots more easily. Base preparation, adhesive type, and laying technique matter more than the tile itself.

Note: guidance is general. On-site conditions can change the right choice. Use this as a checklist, not a substitute for an engineer/contractor.

What to ask

  • Ask your installer about substrate flatness checks before laying.
  • Confirm adhesive type and laying method for large formats.

Red flags

  • !Installer says “same method for all tiles” for very large sizes.
